What do we do?

Schools

We helped with the building, renovation and or expansion of the school facilities in Galinsoor, Galkacyo, Bandiradley, Dhardhar and Bendarqali. We also contribute and help pay for monthly teacher salaries. Because of our efforts and collaboration with other NGOs and donors from various parts of the world, we made access to basic education for thousands of families possible through our efforts and the generous donation of folks like you. We provided school supplies computers, printers etc. to schools to ensure school age children in Somalia have access to basic education and the basic tools required for learning. The schools still lacks a functioning library, science lab, fully equipped technology rooms. With your generous donation, we can renovate, expand and maintain schools through rural communities in Somalia. Please donate generously.

Our curriculum offering includes English, Somali, Math, Biology, Chemistry and social sciences courses.

No rent is paid by SARO for the school building. SARO contributes to payment of teacher salaries and school supplies.

Orphanage Center

A group of well-wishers including current and former board members of SARO built a 5 room orphanage house in Bandarqali. SARO collects donations and sends contribution to the orphanage center to ensure kids are fed, cloth and housed in a safe environment. In return, these children are required to attend school.

Clinics

SARO in conjunction with Somali Diaspora community built a clinic in Galinsoor and Bandarqali. However, another NGO runs the clinic in Galinsoor but the basic health care services provided are limited due to shortage of funds and medical equipment. The clinic in Bendarqali is closed due to shortage of funds. With your generous donation, we can help run, maintain the clinic and provide lifesaving services to thousands of rural residents in Somalia.

Planned Activities

Galinsoor Orphanage Center

We are seeking to build a self-sustaining 50 room orphanage dormitory, a kitchen, and a water well and related playground. Galinsoor is a small town but the number of orphans exceed over 200. We are in the designed stages and we would like your help in accomplishing the building of this dormitory.

Dhardhar Elementary & Middle School

We are also seeking to build an elementary & middle school in a small town called Dhardhaar in Central Somalia. The population of the town is growing and we want to introduce education to young children and their parents to prevent children being recruited into unnecessary clan and religious wars that is ravaging in many parts of Somalia. Prevention is more effective than cure.

Poverty Programs

Over the years, SARO provided assistance to needed people in Mudug, Somalia during the Ramadan. In 2014, $5,000 worth of food was distributed to needy families in Somalia.

Today, Somalia is experiencing the worst famine in 50 years. Per UN and news reports, more than half of the country’s citizens are facing acute food shortage.

Rainfalls during the two-rainy seasons greatly impact food production in Somalia. Poor rainfall in two consecutive seasons in 2016 coupled with significant population displacement due to civil strife have resulted large number of Somalis facing hunger. Poor rainfalls result in water shortage and little or no grazing for livestock/herd.  Many nomads in Somalia mainly rely their livestock for milk, food etc. and without water and grazing land for their herd, they will not survive. Many deaths across the country has already been reported.

We have volunteers on the ground and are attempting to reach as many people as possible. Please save a life and donate generously. No donation is too small.
