In 2007, a group of Somali-Americans gathered and established Somali-American Relief Organization (SARO). Somali-American Relief Organization was founded in Minnesota as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity involved in humanitarian relief efforts in Africa.
SARO has no employees and is run by volunteers. As volunteers, we want to make a difference and give children in Somalia a chance to succeed in life.
Our current programs consist of schools, health clinic and orphanage house in central Somalia. As you know, there is no effective government in Somalia. In fact, there are no working hospitals, clinics, school and or any other public facility in many parts of Somalia. Most of the population are unemployed and cannot afford to send their children to private schools or clinics/hospitals when they are ill. Thus, the burden falls on well-wishers like you. We want to serve as many people as we can. Our long term goals are to:
- Establish Health Clinics
- Build and operate Schools
- Prove access to water & sanitation
- To advocate for peaceful resolutions to ethnic conflicts
